04-02-04 Volunteer Etienne Gets Married
The time is 5pm on Friday the 2nd of April 2004, the place is the beach at Punta Karola, and there is a strange sight
of 30 locals, volunteers, university students and surfers wearing their smartest clothes and getting a little hot in the
late afternoon sun. The occasion is the marriage of one of New Era Galapagos´ volunteers, Etienne, to a beautiful girl from the islands called Nancy.
Etienne came to San Cristobal to work with New Era Galapagos and to set up a recycling project. He was a great help during the summer camp where his trilingual skills came into great use and is helping translate this website into French. Originally from Quebec, Etienne took to life in the Galapagos Islands like a blue footed booby to water.
And so he arrived, dressed all in white, and looking a little nervous. Would she back out at the last minute? No. Soon Nancy and the bridal party walked up the beach to meet Etienne and to make their vows to each other. The gathered party (with the addition of a few curious tourists) cheered as they said "I do" and they kissed as man and wife.
The celebrations continued late into the night at Hotel Orca, with dinner, drinks and dancing. As the moon came out over the harbour, the party raised a toast to the happy couple.
We wish them all the very best for the future and we hope they have a very happy life together.
