President & Co-Founder

Born in San Cristobal, Galapagos, "Teacher Willy" was raised in New York City, and returned to the Galapagos in the early 1990s. Beginning as a freelance ESL teacher, and later as a troop leader in the local 'Scout' program, Willy currently works in the Environmental Education Department of the Galapagos National Park, and also directs all of the Foundation's various programs.

Xavier Castro

Director & Co-Founder

An Ecuadorian citizen, Xavier was born in the province of Ibarra in mainland Ecuador. After working as a tourist guide in the Sierra (Andes Mountains) and Oriente regions (Amazon jungle), Xavier moved to the Galapagos Islands, where he has been living since 1994. Xavier currently directs the Department of Communications for the Galapagos National Park office on San Cristobal, and is responsible for the Foundation's Radio & Communications programs.

Matt Garlick

Director, US Operations & Co-Founder

A former WorldTeach volunteer on San Cristobal, Matt helped establish El Rincon Ecologico, which now serves as the teaching site for all incoming WT volunteers on San Cristobal. He is currently responsible for fundraising, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and general US operations. Matt is a graduate of Creighton University (B.A.) and Boston University (M.A.), and currently lives in San Francisco.
