WILLIAM
PUGA
President & Co-Founder
Born in San Cristobal, Galapagos, "Teacher Willy" was raised in New York
City, and returned to the Galapagos in the early 1990s.
He began as a freelance ESL teacher, and saw the need for a larger scale English language program.
In addition to language instruction, Willy wanted to provide educational programs and environmental action projects to the
inhabitants of the island. With the help of American English volunteers, he founded NEGF. Willy currently directs all of the Foundation's various programs.
In addition to NEGF, Willy is a troop leader in the local "Scout" program, serves as a member of city council,
and is a frequent collaborator with the conservation education program run by the Galapagos National Park.
XAVIER
CASTRO
Director & Co-Founder
An Ecuadorian citizen, Xavier was born in the province of Ibarra in mainland Ecuador.
After working as a tourist guide in the Sierra (Andes Mountains) and Oriente regions
(Amazon jungle), Xavier moved to the Galapagos Islands, where he has been living
since 1994. Xavier currently directs the Department of Communications for the
Galapagos National Park office on San Cristobal, and is responsible for the Foundation's
Radio & Communications programs.
MATT
GARLICK
Director, US Operations & Co-Founder
A former WorldTeach volunteer on San Cristobal, Matt co-founded FNEG along with
William Puga and Xavier Castro, and helped establish El Rincon Ecologico,
which now serves as the teaching site for all incoming WT volunteers on San Cristobal.
Moved by a combination of the unique and fascinating natural surroundings and
the warm community of residents in San Cristobal, Matt established NEGF as a US-based
non-profit corporation upon returning to the United States in 2001. He is currently
responsible for fundraising, program development, and overall organizational strategy.
A graduate of Creighton University (B.A.) and Boston University (M.A.), Matt analyzes
the global venture capital industry for VentureOne when not dreaming of the Galapagos
and other like places.
ANDY
WEHRLEY
Fundraising & Co-Founder
Andy is currently an analyst in the Technology group at Deutsche Bank in San Francisco where he is involved in a handful of
domestic and cross-border investment banking transactions. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Andy worked in Washington, DC for a defense consulting
firm estimating the costs of future weapons systems. He enjoys working in finance and being immersed in international affairs, but like
anyone who has been to San Cristobal and the other Galapagos Islands, he dreams of going back soon. In the mean time, he is working
fervently to keep San Cristobal beautiful and pure. As an English teacher there, Andy fell in love with its people, animals and Grande's
batidos (Ecuadorian sugar shakes). Andy grew up in San Francisco's multi-dimensional East Bay, loves the outdoors, and has a B.A. Business-Economics from UCLA.

the clutter of the Northeast and the Rocky mountains out west. Becky spent a year
as a WT volunteer teaching English and environmental education with FNEG in San
Cristobal, Galapagos. She is excited to be back working in the U.S., and, as Volunteer
Coordinator, hopes to enable lots of other equally passionate individuals to experience
the community of San Cristobal and the beauty of the Galapagos.
